The Documentary Stamp Tax is a tax imposed on the grantor of a deed for the "privilege of transferring beneficial interest in or legal title to real estate". It must be paid when the deed is presented for recording, unless the deed is exempt. The tax is imposed at the rate of $2.25 per $1000.00 or fraction thereof.
