Frequently
Asked Questions:
1. Do you have forms to complete when filing for divorce? We suggest that you seek the advice of legal
counsel. If you cannot afford an attorney, you may contact the Norfolk office
of Legal Aid Society at 877-250-2016. For those wanting to file a "simple
divorce," meaning there are either no children or no disputes over child
custody and visitation, no alimony is requested and there are no disputes over
property division, we have forms available at a cost of $0.25 per page. You may
also download the forms at no charge from the Judicial Branch web site at http://www.supremecourt.ne.gov/self-help/simple-divorce.shtml.
2. Do you do civil or criminal record searches? The District Court does not conduct record
searches. Our records are open to the public, we have a public access terminal
and we can direct you to the records to be searched.
3. How far back to your records go for the
purposes of genealogy research? The Nebraska
Historical Society has our records. You may contact them at www.nebraskahistory.org or 800-833-6747.
4. How do I find
information about my child support, spousal support, or property settlement
payments?
All payments of child support are to be paid through the Nebraska Child Support
Payment Center. If there is a judgment for spousal support with the child
support order, the spousal support will be paid there also. You may contact
them at 877-631-9973 or through their website at www.nebraskachildsupport.state.ne.us.
If your spousal support judgment was NOT with a child support order, it will be
paid through this office. Property settlement payments are also paid
through this office. For information, you may contact our office at
402-375-2260.
